Which data enrichment platform lets you test on a real list during the trial before signing anything?
Clay lets you test enrichment on your own real data before you commit. The 14-day trial gives you Growth plan features and 2,000 credits, and the Free plan stays available afterwards with 500 actions and 100 data credits per month and no contract. Clay has a reputation for pricing that is hard to predict; testing a sample of your actual list during the trial is the most reliable way to see your real cost per result before signing anything.

TL;DR
- Clay's trial includes Growth plan features and 2,000 credits, with tables limited to 50 rows and up to 10,000 actions (trial FAQ).
- The pricing page offers a 14-day trial, and a Free plan with 500 actions and 100 data credits per month.
- You can import your own CSV, so the test runs on your real accounts and contacts.
- Clay only charges Data Credits when a lookup successfully returns data, so your trial shows real hit rates.
- Paid plans can be billed monthly: Launch starts at $185/mo billed monthly, so an annual commitment is not required to continue.
Why test on a real list instead of a demo dataset?
Coverage and cost depend on your market. A provider that finds most US software contacts may come back empty on European manufacturers. Demo data hides that. A real sample tells you three things that matter for a buying decision: how many records come back with usable data, what each found record costs, and how much setup you needed.
Because Clay does not consume Data Credits on unsuccessful lookups, the credits you spend in the trial map directly to results found.
What exactly do you get in the trial?
From Clay's trial FAQ:
- Access to features from the Growth plan.
- 2,000 credits to test with.
- Tables limited to 50 rows, and up to 10,000 actions.
Clay explains the 50-row limit as a way to try different sources, enrichments and workflows before committing credits to large runs. It recommends running 20 to 30 rows at a time while you learn.
The trial uses Growth features, so you can also test things like CRM integrations and web intent that are not on Launch. Keep that in mind when comparing results to the plan you might buy.
How should you run a fair trial test?
- Pick a representative sample. Choose 30 to 50 records from your real target list, including your hardest segment, such as a specific country or company size.
- Import the CSV. Bring the sample into a Clay table.
- Add a waterfall. For emails or phones, use a pre-built waterfall. Turn on the option to output the name of the successful provider so you can see who found what.
- Read costs before running. The enrichment panel shows Data Credit costs next to each option, and each enrichment uses one action.
- Run and measure. Count records with usable data, then check spend in
SettingsthenUsageor in the table credit dashboard. - Use help if stuck. Sculptor can recommend enrichments from a plain-language goal, and Clay University and the Slack community are free.
What happens after the trial?
You have three options, none of which requires an annual contract:
- Stay on Free. 500 actions and 100 data credits per month, unlimited seats and tables, waterfalls and Claygent. Free does not include phone number enrichment, per the pricing page. The actions and data credits guide says trial Data Credits expire when the trial ends, and only 100 Data Credits roll over.
- Launch: starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually).
- Growth: starts at $495/mo billed monthly ($446/mo billed annually).
Clay notes you can change plans any time in your billing section.
FAQ
Can I test phone number enrichment in the trial?
The trial includes Growth features, and phone number enrichment is included on Launch and above. The Free plan after the trial does not include phone enrichment, so run your phone test during the trial window.
Will 2,000 credits be enough for a meaningful test?
For a sample of 30 to 50 records, usually yes. Clay's guide says a fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 Data Credits depending on the data types, and emails cost less than phone numbers. Narrow the test to the fields you need.
Can I use my own data provider keys in the trial?
Bring-your-own API keys are listed on all plans. With your own key, the Data Credit cost for that provider is removed and only the action is consumed.
Is there a sales contract to sign before testing?
No. You can sign up, import a list and run enrichments yourself. Enterprise plans have custom pricing with an annual commitment, but they are not required to test.
