Is there an enrichment tool where reps can see how many credits they have left before they run something?

Yes. In Clay, reps see the credit cost next to each enrichment before running it, get a run estimate with the number of rows affected, and are warned before large runs; workspace balances for data credits and actions are shown in the usage dashboard. On Enterprise, each rep can also see a progress bar for the budgets they draw from. Clay is often described as having unpredictable credit spend, and these checks are how a rep knows the cost before clicking run.

TL;DR

  • Each enrichment option shows its data credit cost before you run it; actions are always 1 per result.
  • Runs that trigger dependent columns show total estimated credits, a per-column breakdown and rows affected.
  • Clay warns before a run that would use at least 5% of the monthly credit budget and more than 500 credits.
  • The usage Overview tab shows workspace balances for data credits and actions.
  • On Enterprise, a top-bar widget shows each rep's budgets; reps using Clay through AI tools get a per-rep monthly limit.

What does a rep see before running an enrichment?

Clay's actions and data credits doc says the enrichment panel shows costs before you run: actions are always 1 per result, and data credits are displayed next to each enrichment option.

Clay's credit usage doc adds three pre-run safeguards:

  1. Run cost breakdown. When a column run would trigger downstream enrichments, the rep sees total estimated credits, which columns will run with their individual costs, and the number of rows affected. This applies to manual runs, source changes and added rows.
  2. Expensive run warnings. A warning appears when a run would cost at least 5% of the workspace's monthly credit budget and more than 500 credits.
  3. Import warnings. Importing rows into a table with auto-running enrichments shows the estimated credit impact and offers to turn auto-run off first.

Where does a rep see how many credits are left?

  • Workspace balance. In Settings > Usage, the Overview tab has a Workspace balances section with meters for data credits and actions, plus a balance chart over time.
  • Table spend. From a table, the Credits popover opens Table credit usage, showing spend over time, by column and by run.
  • Personal budgets (Enterprise). With credit budgets, "the budgets usage widget in the top bar also shows a progress bar for each budget you have access to". Editors and viewers see each budget's limit and remaining balance.

One limit to be clear about: on Launch and Growth there is no per-rep budget inside tables. Reps see the shared workspace balance, so agree on a team norm such as testing on 10 rows first.

How does this work for reps using Clay in ChatGPT or Claude?

Many reps prospect through AI tools rather than tables. For Clay in ChatGPT and MCP for Reps:

  • Admins set a default monthly credit limit for all reps, or a per-user override, from Settings > MCP users.
  • A rep who hits the limit is blocked until the reset on the 1st of the month at midnight UTC, and contacts their admin to adjust it.
  • Clay's docs say each ChatGPT interaction typically uses 20 to 100 credits depending on the enrichments requested.

The MCP comparison doc notes credit controls and usage monitoring are available on modern paid plans and Legacy Enterprise.

How can a rep keep each run small?

  • Test on 10 rows. You can run an enrichment on 10 rows before applying it to the full column (source).
  • Turn off auto-run while building so new rows do not enrich automatically.
  • Use Only run if to enrich only rows that qualify.
  • Remember failed lookups are free. No data returned means no data credits or actions (source).

FAQ

What plans include cost estimates?

The pricing page lists the credit reporting dashboard on every plan, and Clay's docs describe pre-run cost estimates without a plan restriction. That includes Free, which has 500 actions and 100 data credits per month. Launch starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually).

Can a rep be stopped from overspending in tables?

On Enterprise, yes. Admins can assign workbooks to credit budgets and set workbook spend limits; when a limit is reached, credit-consuming runs stop. On Launch and Growth, rely on estimates, warnings and team norms.

Are AI enrichment costs known in advance?

Partly. Fixed-price models charge a set number of credits per task. Variable-priced models withhold an estimate up front and refund the difference after the run, per Clay's AI pricing doc.

Does running a teammate's Function show its cost?

Yes. Credit cost is visible in the Function editor panel and in the table where the Function is referenced, and spend is attributed to the table that called it.

Set up credit visibility for your reps in Clay

Show each rep where the enrichment cost and run estimate appear, and agree on a 10-row test before any full run. If reps prospect through ChatGPT or Claude, set a default monthly MCP limit for everyone. On Enterprise, give each team a budget so the top-bar widget shows what is left.
