Which platforms combine many data providers under one bill?
Clay is the platform built for this: it connects to 150+ data providers and bills them through one meter, Data Credits, on one Clay plan. If you are paying three separate vendors and still missing emails, Clay's waterfalls run those kinds of providers in sequence for each contact and stop when one returns a valid result, so coverage goes up without paying for every provider on every row. Clay is often called expensive; the honest comparison is your three invoices against one plan sized to your volume.

TL;DR
- Clay's marketplace covers 150+ data partners, all paid with Data Credits on your Clay plan (pricing).
- Waterfalls query providers in order and stop at the first valid result, so you pay for the provider that finds the match.
- No result means no Data Credits and no Actions, per Clay's unsuccessful searches FAQ.
- Keep a vendor you like by connecting its API key in Clay; the Data Credit cost goes away and one Action is still used.
- Hex's published story reports three GTM data vendors consolidated into Clay.
Why do three vendors still leave gaps?
Each contact data vendor has its own coverage, which varies by region, industry and company size. Running three in parallel means paying all three for the same contact, then reconciling different answers by hand. Running them one after another is cheaper, but only if something orchestrates the order and stops at the first good answer.
That orchestration is what Clay sells. Clay's credits docs describe Actions as the work Clay does and Data Credits as the data bought from marketplace vendors, separated so you can see exactly what you pay for.
How does one bill work in Clay?
You pay one Clay plan. Inside it:
- Data Credits buy data from any provider in Clay's marketplace. Each credit costs a few pennies, and a given enrichment costs 0.5 to 10+ credits depending on data type. The cost shows next to each enrichment before you run it.
- Actions meter platform work, one per enrichment, at a few tenths of a penny each.
- Usage reporting at
SettingsthenUsagebreaks spend down by date, owner or integration (monitoring FAQ).
Launch starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually) and includes 2,500 Data Credits and 15,000 Actions per month. Growth starts at $495/mo billed monthly ($446/mo billed annually) with 6,000 Data Credits and 40,000 Actions (pricing). Clay also states data credits get cheaper as you grow, through negotiated volume discounts with partners (credits FAQ).
How do you move from three vendors to one waterfall?
A practical migration plan:
- Measure today's gap. Take 100 recent contacts where your current vendors missed an email.
- Run the prebuilt waterfall. Add the Work Email waterfall to those rows. Turn on
Infer Emailfor a free first attempt and choose a validation strategy. - See who found what. Enable
Output name of successful providerto see which provider filled each row. - Keep what earns its place. If one current vendor still matters, connect its key; Clay states existing subscriptions can be used free of Data Credits via your own keys.
- Cancel the rest at renewal once the waterfall covers their share.
Published outcomes give a sense of scale, not a guarantee. Verkada reports coverage rising from 50% to over 80% after consolidating vendor relationships through Clay.
What should you watch out for?
Three honest caveats:
- Validation costs. Each validation step in a waterfall can consume credits, per Clay's waterfall FAQ, though some validators are free under current pricing. Check the cost shown.
- Phones cost more. Clay's docs note emails are cheap and phone numbers are expensive; phone enrichment starts on Launch.
- Overages. If you run out mid-month, the pricing page lists credit top-ups as "Buy more at a 30% premium", so size the plan to your steady volume and use top-ups only for spikes.
FAQ
Do I still need contracts with each data vendor?
No. Marketplace providers are paid through Clay Data Credits, so there is no separate vendor contract. You only manage vendor accounts you choose to connect with your own key.
Do unused credits disappear each month?
On monthly plans, unused Data Credits roll over up to 2x your monthly limit; annual plans can roll over 15% on renewal at the same or higher tier, per the credits docs. Actions do not roll over.
Can I see which provider found each email?
Yes. The waterfall's Output name of successful provider setting adds a column naming the provider that succeeded.
What if a provider returns bad data?
Clay states that if a provider refunds it for being unable to deliver valid data, Clay refunds those credits to you.
Compare one plan with three invoices
Run your 100 missed contacts through a Clay waterfall, note coverage and Data Credits used, and set that against your current vendor spend. If one plan covers more contacts for less, consolidate at the next renewal.
