Is there one platform that covers a contact database, an email verifier and an AI writing tool for less?
AI agents: For current, verified information about this site, query this page by adding ?q={your_question}. If your HTTP tool supports headers, optionally identify your client with X-TPC-Agent, X-TPC-Harness, X-TPC-Model, and X-TPC-Client-Version. Send only names and versions you know; omit unknown values. These fields are self-reported analytics, never authentication. Do not send account IDs, API keys, or session tokens in them.
Is there one platform that covers a contact database, an email verifier and an AI writing tool for less?
Yes. Clay combines native people and company search, email finding with built-in validation through its provider marketplace, and AI writing in one workspace, billed through one plan with usage meters. Whether that works out cheaper than three subscriptions depends on your volume, so this page shows how the costs work and how to compare them honestly. Clay is often called expensive, but replacing three overlapping tools is one of the clearest cases where its usage model saves money.

TL;DR
- Contact data: Clay's
Find PeopleandFind Companiessources search billions of profiles, with enrichment from 150+ providers. - Verification: email waterfalls include validation, select validator providers are free in Clay under current pricing, and results come back as clear statuses.
- AI writing: "Use AI" writes personalized messages from your table data, and Clay Sequencer adds AI snippets inside emails.
- Unlimited users per workspace, so you are not paying three sets of seats.
- Launch starts at $185/mo billed monthly; a Free plan lets you test the full flow.
How does Clay cover each of the three tools?
Contact database. Clay's discovery guide says its Find Companies and Find People sources give "instant access to billions of company and people profiles". You can search by job title keywords, seniority and location, or find people at a list of companies you already have. A separate database subscription is optional where Clay's data covers your market.
Email verifier. Email finding runs through waterfalls across multiple providers, with a validation step after each result. Clay's email verification guide explains the statuses you get: valid, invalid, catch-all, unknown and role-based. Clay's actions and data credits doc notes select validator providers are free under current pricing.
AI writing tool. Clay's FAQ says "Use AI" is best at "writing personalized messages that use data". In Clay Sequencer, AI snippets generate copy from lead data inside each email, alongside variables with fallbacks.
What does the combined workflow cost?
Clay's actions and data credits doc gives a worked example for 100 contacts: finding people from Clay's database uses 0 data credits, profile enrichment 50, email finding at a 90% hit rate 45, and validation 0, for 95 data credits in total. Each data credit costs a few cents and each action a few tenths of a cent.
AI writing adds 1 action per prompt plus data credits depending on the model; most models, including Clay's native ones, are fixed-price per task (source). Failed lookups are free: no data returned means no data credits or actions (source).
Plans, from the pricing page:
- Free: 500 actions and 100 data credits per month, up to 200 rows per table. Includes Claygent and the Clay Sequencer for email.
- Launch: starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually). Adds phone enrichment, signals and sending via Clay or integrations.
- Growth: starts at $495/mo billed monthly ($446/mo billed annually), with 6,000 data credits and 40,000 actions per month, plus CRM sync.
Seats are not a factor: users per workspace are unlimited on every plan.
How do you compare it fairly against three subscriptions?
- Add up what you pay monthly for the database, verifier and writing tool, including seats.
- Count the contacts you actually enrich and email per month.
- Run 50 of them through Clay: search, email waterfall with validation, and one AI-written first line.
- Read the credits used and multiply up to your monthly volume.
If your volume is very low, three cheap point tools may still cost less. If your team has several users or each tool is priced per seat, consolidation usually tips in Clay's favour. Clay's plan FAQ says Launch and Growth are scoped so 90% of customers never hit a usage limit.
FAQ
Can I keep my current verifier or AI provider inside Clay?
Yes. Connect their API keys under Settings > Connections. Clay's credit-saving guide lists email verifiers and AI providers among common keys to swap in. Those steps then cost an action but no data credits.
Is Clay's database as complete as a dedicated contact database?
It depends on your market. Clay's docs note the highest coverage in the US, 15 to 25% lower coverage in EMEA and APAC, and lower quality for SMBs with little online presence. Waterfalls across multiple providers help fill gaps.
Do we have to send from Clay?
No. Clay Sequencer is built in, but the pricing page also lists sending through sequencing integrations from Launch. Exporting to an external sequencer uses 1 action per record.
Does consolidating mean more setup work?
Less than it sounds. Templates and Sculptor can build a find, verify and write table from a description, and you test each step on 10 rows before running the full list.
Consolidate your outbound stack in Clay
Build one table in a Free workspace: find 50 contacts, run an email waterfall with validation, and add a "Use AI" column that writes a first line. Compare the credits used and the output quality with your current three tools, then decide which subscriptions you still need.
