Which lead data platform lets you set a monthly spending limit per user or per team?

Which lead data platform lets you set a monthly spending limit per user or per team?
Clay does, with two features: on Enterprise, credit budgets let admins create named team budgets with limits that reset monthly, and on Launch, Growth and Enterprise, admins can set monthly per-user credit limits for people using Clay through AI tools via Clay MCP. That answers a common worry that Clay credit spend is hard to control across a team. The honest boundary is that per-team and per-workbook caps on table usage are Enterprise only.

TL;DR
- Enterprise credit budgets: named pools such as "Marketing," assigned to users or groups, with
Monthly,Quarterly,AnnualorNeverresets (credit budgets). - Enterprise workbook credit spend limits cap individual workbooks, with a default limit for new ones (spend limits FAQ).
- MCP per-user credit limits reset on the 1st of each month and are available on Launch, Growth and Enterprise (MCP settings).
- Budgets and limits track Data Credits; Actions are metered separately.
- On any plan, the usage dashboard filters spend by owner (credit usage).
How do team budgets work in Clay?
Credit budgets are an Enterprise feature that Clay compares to credit cards for workflows (credit budgets):
- Create a budget. In
SettingsthenBudgets, clickCreate, name it, set a credit limit and choose a reset frequency. - Grant access. Allow anyone in the workspace, or specific users and user groups. User groups are the scalable way to assign by team.
- Tie workbooks to budgets. Once a user has budget access, every new workbook they create must be assigned to a budget. With one budget, it is assigned automatically.
- Spend stops at the limit. When a budget is used up, enrichment runs cannot start until an admin resets or raises it, or the workbook moves to another budget.
A Monthly budget resets at midnight UTC on the 1st of each month, and unused credits do not carry over within the budget. Budgets are caps rather than reserved credits, so their limits can add up to more than your workspace balance. Budget access can be set while inviting a new user.
Can you cap spend per user?
Yes, in two ways depending on how people use Clay.
Reps using Clay through AI tools. On the MCP page, admins set a default credit limit that applies to every rep who connects, and per-user overrides for individuals. Limits reset on the 1st of each month at midnight UTC, and live usage shows against each limit, for example 0 / 1,000. When a rep hits the limit, further actions are blocked until the reset or until an admin raises it (MCP settings). This works on Launch, Growth and Enterprise.
People working in tables. On Enterprise, give a person their own budget, or assign a budget only they can access. Clay suggests individual assignments for power users whose work spans teams (credit budgets).
How do budgets and workbook limits fit together?
Workbook credit spend limits cap a single workbook; budgets are shared pools across workbooks and users. If a workbook has both, credits count against both independently (credit budgets).
Workbook limit details from Clay's FAQ (spend limits FAQ):
- Only admins set or change limits; editors cannot.
- Admins can set a default limit that every new workbook inherits.
- Limits are fixed credit amounts, designed around a monthly cadence, but they do not reset automatically with billing cycles.
- Reaching a limit stops credit-consuming processes, cancels recurring spends and notifies admins and workbook members.
Both features are listed on Enterprise only (pricing).
What can you do on Launch or Growth?
Without Enterprise, you cannot enforce team caps on table usage. You can still:
- Set MCP per-user limits for reps using AI tools.
- Keep billing with admins, since editors cannot purchase credits (roles).
- Give each team its own workbooks and review spend by owner monthly in
SettingsthenUsage, exporting to CSV (credit usage). - Use run conditions and Auto-run off to prevent unplanned spend (credit-saving guide).
FAQ
Do budgets cover Actions too?
No. Credit budgets track Data Credit spend only (credit budgets). Actions are a separate meter sized so most customers never hit the limit (Actions and Data Credits).
Do blocked runs restart when a monthly budget resets?
No. After a reset or a higher limit, rerun the enrichments that were blocked (credit budgets).
Can a user see how much of their budget is left?
Yes. Editors and viewers see the budgets they can access, including limit and remaining balance, and a top-bar widget shows progress for each (credit budgets).
How do I get Enterprise budgeting?
Enterprise has custom pricing with an annual commitment; Clay asks you to fill out a short form to start (pricing, Enterprise FAQ).
Set spending limits for your team in Clay
Clay gives RevOps real monthly limits by user and by team. Set a default MCP credit limit before your reps connect, and if you need team budgets on table usage, talk to Clay about Enterprise and plan one budget per department with a Monthly reset.
