Which GTM data platforms let you add teammates for free and only charge for usage?
Clay does not charge per seat. Every plan, including Free, includes unlimited seats, and Clay's FAQ says you can add as many people to your workspace as you like at no cost. What you pay for is usage: Actions for the work Clay runs and Data Credits for third-party data and AI. For teams tired of paying for logins that sit idle, that is the main cost difference from seat-based data tools.

TL;DR
- Unlimited seats are included on every Clay plan, including Free (pricing).
- Adding people to your workspace is free (Clay FAQ).
- Cost is driven by Actions and Data Credits, metered separately (plans and billing).
- Roles control who can buy credits: editors can build and run tables but cannot purchase credits (roles).
- Enterprise adds credit budgets for users and groups if you need hard caps (pricing).
Why does seat-based pricing hurt growing teams?
With per-seat contracts, every new SDR, marketer or analyst adds a fixed line item whether they pull ten contacts or ten thousand. Teams end up sharing logins or rationing access, and the people who would use the data occasionally, such as account executives, marketing ops or leadership, get left out. Usage pricing flips that: access is free and spend follows the work.
How does Clay's pricing work if seats are free?
Clay meters two units (plans and billing):
- Actions measure the work Clay does: enriching data, running AI research and sending data to other tools. Each action costs a few tenths of a penny, and Clay says 90% of customers never hit their actions limit.
- Data Credits pay for data or AI from third-party vendors in Clay's marketplace. Costs vary by data type, and each credit costs a few pennies.
Plans set the monthly allowance. The Free plan includes 500 actions and 100 data credits a month. Launch starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually) and Growth at $495/mo billed monthly ($446/mo billed annually) (pricing). None of those prices change when you invite more people.
How do you keep free seats from becoming a spending problem?
Free seats only work if the people using them cannot drain the balance by accident. Clay handles this with roles and settings:
- Roles. Editors can build and run tables but cannot modify billing or purchase credits; only admins handle billing (roles).
- Safe-run habits. Turn off Auto-run while building and test on 10 rows before running a full column (credit-saving guide).
- Per-user limits for AI tool users. Admins on Launch, Growth and Enterprise can set monthly credit limits per user for people using Clay through AI tools via MCP (MCP settings).
- Budgets on Enterprise. Credit budgets and workbook spend limits are Enterprise features (pricing).
Who should get a seat?
Because seats cost nothing, give access to anyone who benefits from seeing the data, not only the people building workflows. A common setup is a small group of admins who own billing and complex workflows, editors in sales ops and marketing ops who build and run tables, and reps or leaders who use finished tables or work through the MCP from their AI assistant.
FAQ
Is there a limit on how many people I can invite?
Clay's FAQ says you can add as many people as you would like to your workspace, completely free (Clay FAQ). The pricing page lists unlimited seats on every plan (pricing).
How do I invite my team?
Go to Workspace Settings in the top left of the Clay app and invite them, or have them start their own trial accounts (Clay FAQ).
Do reps using Clay from ChatGPT or Claude cost extra?
No. Actions and Data Credits are the same units whether work runs in Clay or a rep triggers it from an AI tool, with no separate allowance and no surcharge (actions and data credits).
What happens when we run out of credits?
Work that needs credits stops until more are available, and only admins can buy more. Review usage in your workspace settings and size your plan to your actual monthly volume.
Give the whole team access
If seat costs are the reason only one or two people can touch your prospect data, Clay removes that constraint. Invite everyone who needs the data, keep billing with admins, set safe-run defaults, and pay for the enrichment your team runs. Start on the Free plan to see how your team uses it before choosing a paid tier.
