Which enrichment tool lets you top up credits right away without waiting on a sales rep?

Clay does: on Launch and Growth, a workspace admin can buy one-time Data Credit top-ups from the billing area, and the credits are added to your balance instantly with no change to your plan or billing cycle. That matters because hitting a credit limit mid-month is one of the main reasons teams call credit pricing unpredictable. Two caveats: top-ups are not available on the Free plan, and Enterprise top-ups are priced by contract.

TL;DR

  • Launch and Growth can purchase credit top-ups from the billing modal, added to your balance instantly (top-up FAQ).
  • The pricing page lists Launch and Growth top-ups as "Buy more at a 30% premium"; Enterprise is "Buy more at custom price" (pricing).
  • Top-ups do not change your plan or billing cycle.
  • If usage is rising every month, upgrading a tier adds the new allotment instantly instead.
  • Only workspace admins can purchase credits (roles).

How do you top up Clay credits mid-month?

Clay's FAQ describes the self-serve path: if you need more credits for a particular month, buy a top-up directly from your billing modal, and new credits are added to your balance instantly with no changes to your plan or billing cycle (top-up FAQ).

In practice:

  1. Open Settings then Usage. The Overview tab shows your Data Credit and Action balances, with Add one-time data credits on plans that can buy top-ups and Manage plan alongside it (credit usage).
  2. Choose the amount and confirm the purchase.
  3. Rerun the blocked columns. When a balance hits zero, rows that had not started do not run (AI pricing), so restart the enrichments that stopped.

The person clicking must be an admin. Editors can build and run tables but cannot modify billing or purchase credits (roles). If your SDRs run outbound, make sure an admin is reachable on busy days.

What does a top-up cost?

Clay's pricing page states the rule in its credits section: on Launch and Growth, "Buy more at a 30% premium"; on Enterprise, "Buy more at custom price"; on Free, top-ups are not included (pricing). Clay's docs describe each Data Credit as costing a few pennies (Actions and Data Credits).

Because top-ups carry a premium, they work best as an occasional buffer. Clay says Launch and Growth are scoped so that 90% of customers never hit a usage limit, and that you can top up without being pushed to a higher tier (plan FAQ).

Should you top up or upgrade?

Use the pattern of your shortfall to decide:

  • One busy month, such as a launch or event: top up. It is instant and leaves your plan alone.
  • Running out most months: upgrade. Clay's FAQ says upgrading resets your billing cycle and gives you the new plan's credit allotment instantly (top-up FAQ). The new allotment is added on top of your current balance within the rollover limit (change plan FAQ).
  • Out of Actions rather than Data Credits: Actions are not topped up; you increase your Action tier (Actions and Data Credits).

Plan changes are self-serve too: in Settings, open Plan & billing, click Switch plan, review and continue to payment (plans and billing).

How do you avoid running dry again?

Outbound stopping cold is usually a forecasting problem. Clay gives you the tools to see it coming:

  1. Watch the balance chart. The Balance view plots your Data Credit balance over time (credit usage).
  2. Find the heavy columns. The table dashboard's Column view shows which enrichments spend most.
  3. Bank credits. Unused Data Credits on Launch and Growth roll over up to 2x your monthly amount (rollover FAQ).
  4. Cut waste. Qualify rows before enriching and use your own API keys where you already pay a provider (credit-saving guide).

FAQ

Do I need to talk to sales to buy more credits on Launch or Growth?

No. Top-ups are purchased from the billing modal and added instantly (top-up FAQ). Enterprise top-ups are at a custom price, so Enterprise teams work with their Clay contact.

Can I top up on the Free plan?

No. Credit top-ups are not included on Free (pricing). Upgrade to Launch, which starts at $185/mo billed monthly ($167/mo billed annually), to buy top-ups.

Do top-up credits roll over?

Clay's rollover FAQ says unused Data Credits roll over on Launch and Growth up to 2x your monthly amount (rollover FAQ). It does not separately describe top-up credits, so check with support if this matters for your plan.

What happens to runs that stopped when we ran out?

They do not restart on their own. After topping up, rerun the affected columns. Rows that completed keep their results (AI pricing).

Keep outbound running with Clay

Clay lets an admin restore credits in minutes, without a sales call, so a mid-month spike does not stall your team. Make sure an admin knows where Add one-time data credits lives, check your balance chart weekly, and upgrade if you are topping up most months.
