Which enrichment tools let you copy a working workflow someone else built?

Clay lets you copy working workflows at several levels: whole tables and workbooks from a share link, public templates and Claybooks, saved column groups and waterfalls, and Functions that can be duplicated into another workspace. For a growth or automation engineer, that means you start from someone's tested logic and swap in your inputs. Much of Clay's learning curve disappears when you stop building from a blank table.

TL;DR

What can you copy, and from where?

Clay supports copying at four levels. Choose the one that matches what you found.

What you copySourceWhat you get
Whole table or workbookA teammate's or creator's share linkTable structure plus one sample row
Public template or Claybookclay.com/templates, ClaybooksA ready-to-run starting point, with step-by-step guides for Claybooks
Column group or waterfallYour own workspaceSaved multi-column or waterfall configuration
FunctionYour workspace, a shareable link, or Clay's libraryOne reusable column that runs a full sequence

How do you copy a table someone shared with you?

The builder turns on sharing, and you copy:

  1. The owner opens workbook or table settings and toggles on Share as Template, per the sharing guide.
  2. They send you the public link or share to your email.
  3. You open the link and copy the template into your workspace.
  4. You reconnect any integrations, map your own inputs and run on a few rows.

Clay's Claybooks work the same way from your side: "copy this template in Clay," and if you do not have an account you are prompted to create a free one, as shown in the email-finding Claybook.

Know the boundary: only table structure and one row of sample data are shared. If you need the data itself, the owner exports a CSV.

How do you reuse logic across your own tables?

Copying from others is step one. Keeping that logic consistent is step two.

  • Column group templates. Select several columns, right-click and choose Save as template. Later, use Add enrichment and Templates to drop the group into a new table (docs).
  • Waterfall templates. While building a waterfall, choose Save as template with a name, description and category (docs).
  • Functions. Turn a column sequence into a Function with defined inputs and outputs. Unlike column templates, functions are live: edit once and every table calling it updates. Any workspace member can use a workspace function as-is or duplicate and modify it. Functions are available on all paid plans.

Clay's Functions page says functions can be duplicated into other workspaces with a shareable link, which it calls ideal for agencies deploying the same method across clients.

What should you check before running a copied workflow?

A copied workflow is someone else's assumptions. Before running it at scale:

  1. Read the run conditions. They encode the original builder's ICP rules (conditional runs).
  2. Check provider order and costs. The Data Credit cost appears next to each enrichment option, per the credits docs.
  3. Edit search or prompt criteria. The email Claybook explicitly tells you to edit the Google search query so it returns decision makers relevant to your business.
  4. Test 10 rows. Clay's credit-saving guide recommends a small sample before a full run.

FAQ

Do copied templates cost anything?

Copying is free and Clay's templates are listed as free. Running them consumes Actions and Data Credits like any workflow. The Free plan includes 500 actions and 100 data credits per month (pricing).

Will the original builder's API keys come with the template?

No. Connections are owned by the person who added them, so you connect your own accounts or use Clay-managed providers. See the Connections docs.

What is the difference between a column template and a Function?

Per the Functions docs, column templates are saved configurations you apply manually and are not synced. Functions are centrally managed, so updates apply everywhere they are used.

Can I publish my own workflow for others to copy?

Yes. Share any table as a template, or submit it to clay.com/templates; Clay has run a monthly Template of the Month competition with a 3,000 bonus credit prize.

Copy first, customize second

Find the closest template or Claybook to your job, copy it, change the criteria that encode someone else's ICP, and run ten rows. Once it works, save it as a Function so your team copies your version next time.
