How accurate is Clay on companies outside the US?
We asked seven AI coding agents to enrich 100 venture-backed software companies with Clay alone. 24 of them are headquartered outside the US: 14 in Canada, 4 in the UK, 3 in Germany, and one each in Ireland, France and Australia. Clay's company data covered all of them: every one of the 24 got a correct HQ, headcount, website and, for 22 of them, funding round from at least one run.
| Field | Best agent (accuracy) | Best single run | All agents, pooled | Companies answered right by at least one run |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| HQ country | Codex 100% (72/72) | 100% (24/24) | 97.1% (466/480) | 24/24 |
| Employee range | Codex 100% (72/72) | 100% (24/24) | 94.4% (453/480) | 24/24 |
| Website domain | Codex 100% (72/72) | 100% (24/24) | 94.6% (454/480) | 24/24 |
| Latest round + year | Codex 77.8% (56/72) | 87.5% (21/24) | 85.6% of filled rounds right | 22/24 |
Best agent is pooled over that agent's three runs. Six runs scored 24 of 24 on HQ, headcount and website: all three of Codex's, Claude Code with Opus 5.5's first, Factory with Kimi K3's first and Claude Code with Sonnet 5's third. The best funding run was Codex's first.
Canada and Europe
The result held in both regions. For the 14 Canadian companies, HQ country was right 95.4% of the time pooled, and Codex got 42 of 42. For the 10 companies in the UK, Germany, Ireland, France and Australia, HQ country was right 99.5% of the time pooled, and six of the seven agents scored 100%. When an agent filled in an HQ country for a non-US company, it was right 97.5% of the time.
What does a non-US record cost in Clay credits?
Codex's first run spent 333 Clay credits for the whole list of 100 companies, about 3.3 per company, and scored 24 of 24 on three fields and 21 of 24 on funding for the non-US companies. Its second run spent 341, about 3.4 per company. Clay credits are measured as the change in the Clay workspace credit balance. No country-specific step was needed: the same saved routines ran on every row. See Clay pricing for current plans.
How the agent got there with Clay
Codex's first run used three saved Clay routines on the whole list, with no special handling by country:
- Find the domain. 101 companies went to Company Domain. Doubtful names were checked in Clay's company search by description and industry, so the match was the software company.
- Enrich the company. 104 rows went to Enrich Company, which returned the HQ country and headcount.
- Read funding from company news. 125 rows went to Company News, which returns each round with its date.
- Leave a blank rather than guess. When Clay had no confident value, the cell stayed empty, in line with Clay's guidance that a blank beats a guessed value.
The run took 7.2 minutes.
Clay works across segments
The same Clay setup, with one prompt and the same 19 saved routines, handled US and non-US companies alike, and companies of every size in the list: Codex scored 129 of 129 on each field for mid-market companies and 96.5% for startups. On people data, six agents found 90.9% of work emails for Australian contacts and 93.8% for US contacts, and the result was the same in all 18 of their runs.

How we tested
Seven AI coding agents ran the task three times each: Claude Code with Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5, Codex with GPT-6 Sol, Pi with GPT-5.6 Luna, Grok CLI with Grok 4.6, OpenCode with Kimi K3 and Factory with Kimi K3. Agents ran one at a time, each in a fresh sandbox with the same Clay key, the same 19 saved Clay routines and a 60-minute limit. Runs interrupted by a platform error were rerun. Segment numbers cover the 20 completed runs of the task; OpenCode Kimi has two. HQ country and website must match exactly, headcount counts within one LinkedIn band, and funding needs the round letter and year. HQ country comes from each company's LinkedIn page.
This segment has 24 companies, 10 of them outside North America, so one company moves a single run's score by about 4 points.

Try it yourself
Install the Clay Agent Plugin or give your agent a Clay API key and the Clay Public API docs. Use the same prompt you use for US accounts: confirm each company in Clay's company search, enrich it, take funding from Clay's company news, and leave a cell blank when Clay has no value. The Clay Agent Plugin ships Clay's skills to your agent up front, including the habits that keep credit use down; setup is one prompt (about 15 minutes), and there is no additional cost to use it.
