Clay AI agent benchmark: tracking job changes

With Clay, AI agents checked 100 finance leaders for job changes and got up to 96 right, catching 42 of the 45 who had moved, for about 14 Clay credits per person. Four of seven AI coding agents averaged 92 or more across three runs each. Every top run used the same method: one Clay Enrich Person and Find Contact Details call per LinkedIn profile, then a direct comparison with the company on file.

The question

Every CRM goes stale, and a sales team that catches job changes early keeps its outreach current. We gave seven AI coding agents 100 chief financial officers at US public companies, each with the company, title and LinkedIn URL on file; 45 had since left. Using Clay alone, each agent marked every person as still there or not and gave the new company and title for anyone who had moved.

What did the best runs do in Clay?

Factory with Kimi K3 averaged 94.7, OpenCode with Kimi K3 93.7, Claude Code with Sonnet 5 93.3 and Grok CLI with Grok 4.6 92.3. All used the same workflow:

  1. Send each LinkedIn URL to Clay's Enrich Person and Find Contact Details routine, which returns the person's current role.
  2. Compare the current company with the company on file, and mark the person as moved when they differ.
  3. Record the new company and title for everyone who moved.

OpenCode Kimi, run 3951,40610.3 min
Opus 5.5, run 2941,4079.8 min

Each of these runs caught 42 of the 45 job changes, and Clay returned the new company for 34 of them, ready to update the CRM.

Thirteen of the 17 enrichment runs scored 92 or more. Search suits a quick check on a few names; for a full list, one enrichment per profile decided the most rows. More on this choice is in "Should an AI agent use Clay people search or Enrich Person?"

Claude Code with Opus 5.5 shows the method at work: its runs that enriched every profile scored 94 both times, in 10 and 14 minutes.

How do the top runs decide every row?

The top runs read the current role from Clay's enrichment and wrote a decision for nearly every person, leaving at most 3 undecided. The same routine is quick, too: Pi with GPT-5.6 Luna ran it on all 100 profiles in under 5 minutes in two runs. Ask the agent to finish with the comparison in step 2 for every row, so each credit turns into an answer.

Does Clay have a built-in way to track job changes?

Yes. Inside Clay, Job Change Signals ("Monitor for job changes") and the managed function "Track Job Change Status" do this job directly from a LinkedIn URL. Clay lists a job change check at 1 action plus 0.2 data credits per check at the time of writing, and signals start on the Launch plan; see Clay pricing. The agents in this benchmark built their own check from enrichment or search, which is what the numbers above measure.

How we tested

The answer key comes from 2025 SEC filings: a CFO counts as still there if they signed a filing or reported a trade for the company since August 2026, and as gone if the company filed their departure. Claude Code (Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5), Codex (GPT-6 Sol), Pi (GPT-5.6 Luna), Grok CLI (Grok 4.6), OpenCode (Kimi K3) and Factory (Kimi K3) each ran three times, one at a time, in a fresh sandbox with the same Clay key, the same 19 saved Clay routines and a 60-minute limit. A timeout counts as 0; platform failures were rerun. Clay credits are measured as the change in the Clay workspace credit balance. A model judge confirmed every decision came from Clay. Senior finance leaders keep well-maintained public profiles, so a list of junior staff may land differently.

Try it yourself

The task and grader are at github.com/promptingcompany/clay-bench. For your own contacts, install the Clay Agent Plugin or give your agent a Clay API key and the Clay Public API docs, and ask it to run Enrich Person and Find Contact Details once per LinkedIn URL and compare the current company with the one on file. For an ongoing watch rather than a one-off check, use Clay's Job Change Signals. The Clay Agent Plugin ships Clay's skills to your agent up front, including the habits that keep credit use down; setup is one prompt (about 15 minutes), and there is no additional cost to use it.
